Before Your Procedure
Medications:

Preparing for Your Procedure

• If you are taking diabetes medications, aspirin, medicines containing aspirin, blood thinners or have bleeding problems, please speak with your medical provider as soon as possible. They will let you know when you need to stop taking these medications.
• Your PreAdmit Nurse will provide you with specific medication instructions during your PreAdmit appointment. Please follow the medication instructions provided by your PreAdmit Nurse or medical provider.
• Day of Procedure Medications: Please only take medications your PreAdmit Nurse or medical provider has instructed you to take on the day of your procedure. Do NOT bring any medications with you to the hospital.
o Erectile dysfunction medications( Viagra, Cialis): Do not take these medications 48 hours prior to your procedure unless instructed by your physician.
o Chronic Pain: If you are on Naltrexone, Suboxone or Buprenorphine for chronic pain, please notify your prescribing doctor of your upcoming procedure and ask about specific instructions you should follow prior to your procedure.
o Anti-inflammatory drugs: Stop taking anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen( Advil, Motrin) or naproxen( Aleve) for 5 days prior to your procedure, unless otherwise instructed by your medical provider. Acetaminophen( Tylenol) is okay to take before your procedure.
Recreational Drugs, Alcohol and Nicotine:
• No recreational marijuana use for 48 hours prior to your procedure. Medical marijuana is acceptable to continue.
• Illicit stimulants and hallucinogens( cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, PCP, ketamine, etc.) should be stopped 14 days prior to procedure.
• ** Patients may be subject to drug testing, and your procedure may be cancelled. **
• Alcohol: Do not drink alcohol after 6 p. m. the night before your procedure.
• Nicotine: Do not chew or smoke tobacco( regular or e-cigarettes) or use nicotine products after midnight the night before your procedure.
Stool softeners: Because pain medications are known to cause constipation, it is recommended you take stool softeners a few days prior to your procedure and continue through your recovery at home.
Filling opioid / narcotic prescriptions: It is important to note that controlled substance prescriptions need to be filled in Nevada. Please make arrangements to get your prescription filled before you leave the state.
• Renown Pharmacy – Renown Regional Medical Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
• Renown Pharmacy – South Meadows Medical Center is open Monday – Friday, 8:00 a. m. to 5:00 p. m.
• Or you can fill your prescription at your preferred pharmacy of choice.
• A Photo ID is required when filling a controlled substance prescription.
Transportation: You must have a ride home if you are receiving any type of sedation or anesthesia for your procedure. Please arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure. If you do not have someone to drive you home, it may be necessary to reschedule your procedure.
Visitor Policy: Two healthy adults may be with you day of procedure. Children under 12 years old are not allowed in the surgical area. ** Please make childcare arrangements for other minor children. **
