World Handicap System
Things to know
• The WHS will debut in 2020 and will allow golfers to play on an
equitable and fair basis around the world.
• The USGA Course Rating System will be referred to as “The
Course Rating System” and will used around the world. This will
allow your index to travel from country to country.
• A handicap index will be issued after three 18-hole scores are
submitted. Indexes will begin to change daily instead of the 1 st
and 15 th of the month. Posting your score on the same day you play
will be imperative.
• The number of scores used to determine your index will go from
10 out of 20 to 8 out of 20 scores.
• The maximum handicap Index for all golfers will be 54.0
regardless of gender. This will make the game more welcoming to
new players and incentivize beginners to establish and maintain a
handicap index.
• The course handicap calculation will now include a course rating
minus par adjustment, which will enable a course handicap to
represent the # of strokes a player receives to play down to Par of
the tees being played. As a result, as long as players are competing
from tees with the same Pars, no additional adjustment is needed.
No more rule 3-5.
• Course Handicap = Index x (Slope / 113) + (Course Rating – Par)
o 8.6 = 4 Course Handicap from DR Gold / 8 from DR White
o 16.7 = 12 Course HDCP from DR Gold / 17 from DR White
o 25.3 = 21 Course HDCP from DR Gold / 27 from DR White
• Equitable Stroke Control is eliminated and replaced with Net
Double Bogey Max. This will allow for a more consistent
adjustment from hole to hole.
