Summons Fall 2016 | Page 8

During the luncheon, we were treated to a presentation from the Hon. Jackie Glass (Ret.) who regaled us with stories from her career as a litigator and District Court Judge – including having sentenced O.J. Simpson to 33 years in prison for armed robbery at a Las Vegas hotel in 2008 – as well as those dealing with her being the star of her own courtroom television show!

The educational sessions of the conference took place on Thursday and Friday. NALA offered a range of 23 different sessions from which to choose in a wide variety of topics that ranged from essential skills and technology to feature film and the law of music. All in all, we were offered 13 hours of CLE credit in 2 days, including up to 9 hours of ethics. No “pre-registration” was required to attend a particular session. You simply walked into the proper room, scanned your badge, and your attendance was automatically recorded. This system allowed NALA to record who attended each seminar, and assign the proper CLE credits to the proper individual. Attendees will be receiving a notification from NALA concerning their total CLE hours from the conference.

In addition to the live presentations, each session was recorded this year and made available for purchase through NALA. The added benefit to this was that the presenters would repeat a question or comment they received (so it could be properly recorded), which also helped everyone to clearly hear each question/comment, and then respond.

We were given an opportunity on Wednesday and Thursday morning, between attending the meetings and educational sessions, to visit the professional vendorexhibits where we were exposed to an amazing range of technology and services available to the legal community. Friday morning saw the professional vendors gone and the Affiliate Associations exhibits up and running! Here we were able to go from booth to booth, meeting new paralegals from across the country and learning more about each of their affiliate organizations. There are a lot of us out there!!!

Each year, NALA selects a different charity to support. This year NALA selected Three Square. Three Square is a
