Staying One Step Ahead in a Competitive
TALENT MARKET
The pandemic upended so much about our lives , and the job market was no exception . While hiring has slowed a bit entering the summer , companies everywhere continue to struggle to fill a massive number of vacant positions . For every unemployed worker in the U . S ., there are about two vacant positions .
“ This is , without hyperbole , the most difficult hiring market I ’ ve seen in my life ,” said Adam Glassman , director of employment brand and marketing at Cox Enterprises . “ It ’ s not just a Cox problem — it ’ s impacting every single company in the country . Companies are pulling out all the stops to compete for talent and hire the best .”
Thankfully , Cox is well positioned to recruit and retain the best workers . We continue to have a low voluntary turnover rate , and the average tenure of a Cox employee ( nine years ) is more than double the national average . Cox employees are also more engaged and happier at work than their counterparts at other companies , according to a Great Places to Work study .

And despite hiring a record 9,000 people in the first half of 2022 , there were still more than 3,500 openings last month across our businesses . That compares to 2,500 openings prior to the pandemic .
This new reality means Cox is working harder and smarter than ever to recruit the best candidates .
MEETING THE CHALLENGE
“ Gone are the days where you can rely on sort of a single method to identify candidates ,” said Robert Woodard , vice president of talent acquisition at Cox Enterprises .
Robert and his team have implemented several strategies to fill open positions . First , they have emphasized the importance of employee referrals . “ Everyone in the company needs to be a talent scout ,” said Robert . “ Our employees should always be on the lookout .”
