Need to take a trip but your budget won’t allow you to splurge? No worries!

Here are 9 tips to help you fly in luxury, keep your expenses to a minimum and avoid annoying the Flight Attendants with petty requests.

1. Choose a good airline

With the recent sudden closure of a few airlines worldwide, and grounding of aircraft because of equipment scares, book your next flight with a carrier that has a great on-time performance rating, and an impeccable safety record as a minimal requirement. Based on your region of travel, you may also find airlines that offer complimentary meal services and baggage such as Caribbean Airlines and Copa Airways.

2. Forget Basic Economy

With so many restrictions that accompany this fare type, try to avoid it at all costs. Book your flight as ‘Main Economy’ and choose to pre-assign your seat. Some airlines offer this service complimentary, and some charge a fee. For additional leg room, choose either the bulkhead seats or the second row of the emergency exit. Be warned, depending on the airline and aircraft, not all second rows of the emergency exits recline. Check with your Travel Specialist to confirm.

3. Option to Upgrade

Look out for the opportunity to upgrade your seat via a private bidding system. Many airlines now offer this option to reduce wastage of empty First Class seats, and also to reward passengers for choosing to fly with them. Once your booking qualifies for an upgrade, you will be sent an email by the airline or your Travel Specialist. Name your price, cross your fingers and submit. Sit back, relax and wait to be notified if your bid has been successful.
