skills for Anticipatory Action is essential ahead of Early Action Plans (EAPs) activations.
Therefore, the Guatemalan Red Cross requested the support of the German Red Cross' delegation to facilitate the introductory course on Anticipatory Action.
The training was attended by 25 delegation presidents, members of the national council and directors of the National Society.
The Guatemalan Red Cross has a recent experience of an EAP activation on floods associated to tropical cyclones. The mechanism was activated ahead of the impacts of tropical storm Julia. Its lessons learned were highlighted during the training, as well as the other hazards and social phenomena with ongoing Anticipatory Action initiatives: drought, volcanic ash dispersion and human mobility.
The participants who received the course play an important role in influencing the critical decision making to ensure that the anticipatory actions promoted in Guatemala arrive on time, in favor of those families who need it most.
