here is an increasing
number of governments interested in joining the promotion of anticipatory actions in their countries.
Civil Protection of El Salvador, as the coordinating body for Integrated Disaster Risk Management in the country, is a key actor in the paradigm shift from reaction to anticipation.
In this sense, the Salvadoran Red Cross, with the support of the German Red Cross' team, facilitated the introductory course to Anticipatory Action to 20 representatives of the institution.
Luis Alonso Amaya, director of Civil Protection, emphasized that Anticipatory Action mechanisms are giving all the countries, where there are already being applied, an opportunity to be more efficient. "Anticipating events is definitely the best option to assure efficiency in the management of an emergency," Amaya stated.
During the training, people participated in practical sessions to identify the differences between response and anticipation actions.
They learned about the anticipation mechanisms promoted by the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and exchanged on opportunities for hazards that impact the country.
These types of spaces are essential to identify opportunities for the complementarity between humanitarian action and public services in favor of Salvadoran families.
