Salvadoran Red Cross, along with key partners such as the Civil Protection of El Salvador, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) participated in the workshop for the Feasibility Study of the Forecast-based Financing mechanism in El Salvador, held in September 2022.

El Salvador has a high exposure to floods, with recurring events per year. Due to the severe impacts they have in at-risk communities and, consequently, a large number of operations led by the Salvadoran Red Cross, this hazard was prioritized for the anticipation mechanism.

On the other hand, the country is part of the "Central American Dry Corridor", where droughts periodically affect the livelihoods of communities, as well as food security problems; issues magnified by the El NiƱo phenomenon.

After a process of inter-institutional dialogue, droughts were also identified as another priority hazard. The Feasibility Study includes an outline and timeline of key activities for the development of the Early Action Plans for the prioritized hazards.
