he fourth edition of
the Regional Dialogue Platform on anticipatory action in Latin America and the Caribbean, held on September 28 and 29, was attended by more than 150 people gathered in Antigua Guatemala; and nearly 150 people connected virtually.
Humanitarians, international organizations, hydrometeorological institutes, academics, and others, joined the event.
The theme for the 2022 edition was "Scaling up and integration on the disaster risk management systems".
Raquel Peña, specialist in emergencies and Disaster Risk Management of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), shared that "the event left us with the great challenge of scaling down, that is, to achieve more anticipatory action at the local level, and more inclusion of different actors".
The Platform's agenda included panels, technical and creative sessions, a fair on anticipatory action initiatives and, as an innovative ingredient, an inter-agency simulation that exposed the gaps and opportunities in the coordination mechanisms between the Red Cross, FAO and the World Food Program (WFP) in anticipatory action on droughts in Guatemala.
