A tradition of
Writer : Paul St . -Soeur high performance
The original Subaru BRZ debuted on the global stage in 2012 and immediately struck a chord with drivers who crave an analog driving experience . The formula was dead-simple : front engine , rear-wheel drive , low curb weight , low centre of gravity , minimal trickery . This same formula still works today , even more so when higher-performing versions , such as the new
2024 Subaru BRZ tS , are released .
Here ’ s a fun fact for you . The name “ BRZ ” derives from three terms : the BOXER ® engine , rear-wheel drive and the word “ zenith ,” which means the pinnacle in performance . This acronym just about sums up the essential qualities that make the Subaru BRZ such a popular driver ’ s car . But there ’ s more of a story to tell when you take into consideration the special editions that have appeared over the years , the models that have served to further underline what makes the BRZ such an epic choice .
As is now tradition , the first special-edition model was released not long after the first-generation BRZ was launched . The year was 2013 and the very first Subaru BRZ tS was produced for the domestic market . The moniker “ tS ” stands for “ tuned by STI ” and that just about says it all . This model featured a modified suspension system , Brembo ® brakes , 18-inch silver BBS wheels , and an STI body kit and front spoiler .
