“ Ok, patroller.” I looked at Dakota with a look that said“ bad move.” The patroller looked back at suspiciously, and then started walking to the big building looming ahead.
“ Main,” he lectured,“ is the biggest building in the Territory. You two will be waiting here for a couple hours while we make some changes.”“ What cha-“ cut in Dakota.“ As I was saying,” growled the patroller,“ You will be waiting here. Go inside, find any Ornsipir, and tell them your names. Ah, yes. You two are unfamiliar with an Ornsipir?” We nodded.“ They are wearing all yellow. Ok, you best be on your way now!” My expression was a mixture of confusion, anger, and curiosity. I let curiosity take over. Taking one last look at Sky Patrol, I followed my brother through the towering metal doors.
The inside was unbelievable. Everywhere we looked we saw Ornsipirs, the people in yellow. I walked up to one.“ Umâ €¦ hello?” I tapped a tall Ornsipir lady.“ Please speak your status; One: Girl. Two: Boy. Three: Man. Four: Woman. Five: Baby Girl. Six: Baby Boy. Seven: Old Woman. Eight: Old Man. Nine: Other.” I shrieked. I had been expecting a woman’ s voice, not a robot’ s.“ G-g-girl and a b-boy,” I stuttered.“ Please state your reason: Reinforcements, Business and
Work, Patroller’ s Orders, Leader’ s Orders, Parent’ s Orders.”“ Patroller’ s Orders,” Dakota whispered to me. I told the Ornsipir,“ Patroller’ s Orders.” She looked at me, and for a second our eyes locked, but then she turned away and led us to a big door surrounded by men and women in black suits. The Ornsipir spoke,“ Girl. Boy. Patroller’ s Orders.” The guards broke up and formed a walkway. Before the Ornsipir unlocked the door for us, she once again turned and dug her eyes into mine. Even though her face was emotionless, her eyes were full of life. Then, breaking away, she opened the door.
“ What are we supposed to do now?” asked Dakota, looking angry. I nudged him, gesturing to move forward. We looked forward to see a long, perfectly straight hallway looming ahead of us. I looked back, hearing a thud and many clicks. The door we came
