I played/sang with quartets, orchestras, ensembles – throughout recording sessions or live performances. I’m a member of pro Musicians Union in California. I also taught privately and classes in University of Southern California (Musical Theatre group) and Musicians Institute (singing/songwriting/harmony and theory). I have music degrees from St. Petersburg Music Conservatoire and Musicians Institute in Hollywood. I also worked for over a year in the studio with Devente Swing – Jodeci producer – who gave me wicked knowledge of production, songwriting and basic artist sense. I also had amazing mentors as Jae Deal (Janet Jackson musical director and producer extraordinaire), who basically introduce me to the industry in LA. How it affected me? I feel like a music superhero lol. I am. I understand and enjoy every step of the process.

SMM :Describe your “style” of reggae?

Orisha Sound : Futuristic reggae. It’s a bland of dub, reggae and Orisha Sound. It is authentic reggae music. When I listen to the artists from Bob Marley to Peter Tosh to Toots and Maytals – I never try to copy their sound but always hear the originality of each artist and then just let my own vision take over.

SMM : You have written and collaborated with many music artists, can you name a few and which ones were your favorites?

Orisha Sounds : I have been asked a lot why do I do so many collaborations. Hmmm, the answer is simple – I love collaborating. Originally, I was writing, producing and singing all the tunes I had. My first collab was Sunshine Lady – since then – I really appreciate it. I like how my vocals sound in the collab situation and how the vocals blend.

SMM : What plans do you have for your future?

Orisha Sound : I know what I want to do from early age and Im still making it happen – so Im a happy girl. It nah always easy but I can manage it. There is so much music I want to record and produce. Recently I picked a new instrument – I started DJ-ing – I love it. Its orchestral, it’s a lot like playing keys or conducting an orchestra and more. Im definatly planning to tour more in the nearest future and do some scoring – for films and TV.

SMM : If you weren’t a musician, what do you think you would be doing? Right now

Orisha Sound : if I wasn’t busy with music Id be acting. I miss it a lot – I did lots of work when I was based in LA. I am a Screen Actors Guild member. And I was just telling a friend of mine the other day – man, I miss acting. Hmmm… If you talking earlier, I think an athlete, because I’m very competitive and physical. It could’ve been running or tennis or ice-skating professionally. All of it is a show off right? But lots of focus and dedication – this is so me.
