Willis was an American stop-motion animator and motion special effectscreator, he was responsible for some of the best-known images in cinema history. He spent his spare time sculpting and illustrating which led for his employment as a draftsman ' s as a sport cartoonist for the San Francisco Daily News, During this time period he created animated models, this included cavemen and dinosaurs. From this he was able to create his own film " The Dinosaur and the missing Link " He noticed he could make his movies by moving figures and filming then one frame at a time, this made the production process allot easier and gave him the ability to do whatever he wished with his clay models. This technique of stop frames would of advances Willis O’ Brien work as he ' d be able to manipulate the human eye to think that the clay models are infact moving. He improved the ability to move the model, and work with the clay models to make them move more freely. This plays on the perception of vision as it is making the illison to the audience that the animals are actually moving.
Ray Harryhausen-
Ray was an American-British visual effects creator, writer and producer who created a form of stopmotion models known as " dynamation ". Ray considered his specialty to be creating fantasy creatures, making the animated character in the same scene as a human actor. This technique would of made the audience more interested in that time period as this had never happened before, it creates the illusions of the scenes and makes a comparison between real life and imaginary. He created the invention of Dynamation, which is using a projected screen to capture animation that is over another piece of work, this has developed from Edward Muybridge of using mirrors to be able to see the moving images. Ray HarryHausen worked alone and this is why his stop motion took so long to create, in his most popular film he would often shoot no more than 13 frames of film per day. He has inspired many animators for years after by using animated characters with humans to develop the filming industry as much as possible.
