DANCING FOR AFRICA
An Eccleshall school stepped up its fund-raising efforts by getting all of its pupils and teachers to take part in a Zumba display in support of youngsters in a small African community .
A ‘ Zumbathon ’ took place at Bishop Lonsdale Primary School on Thursday afternoon 18th July to raise money for the Lasajang Community Project , a charity supporting the Sissala community in Northern Ghana .
Pupils first heard about the plight of the charity when Year One students enjoyed an African and craft workshop earlier in the term , as part of a project about the continent , and heard how the charity was trying to raise money to send a container full of nursery and school equipment to the Sissala community .
“ Our students have been really enthusiastic about helping the children in the village out in some way , so we came up with the idea of a whole-school Zumbathon as a way of getting everyone involved ,” explained Year One teacher Sharon Chivers .
