DANCING FOR AFRICA

An Eccleshall school stepped up its fund-raising efforts by getting all of its pupils and teachers to take part in a Zumba display in support of youngsters in a small African community.

A‘ Zumbathon’ took place at Bishop Lonsdale Primary School on Thursday afternoon 18th July to raise money for the Lasajang Community Project, a charity supporting the Sissala community in Northern Ghana.
Pupils first heard about the plight of the charity when Year One students enjoyed an African and craft workshop earlier in the term, as part of a project about the continent, and heard how the charity was trying to raise money to send a container full of nursery and school equipment to the Sissala community.
“ Our students have been really enthusiastic about helping the children in the village out in some way, so we came up with the idea of a whole-school Zumbathon as a way of getting everyone involved,” explained Year One teacher Sharon Chivers.
