THE FLYING FOX 10 MILE ROAD RACE
Run with the Flying Fox
Stone Master Marathoners are this year celebrating their 10th Anniversary of the popular Flying Fox 10 mile Road Race . Taking place on Sunday 3rd November at 10.30am , the race starts from the picturesque village of Standon from which the runners take in some of the most beautiful and unspoilt countryside the county has to offer . The race consists of one lap around undulating country roads passing through the villages of Cranberry , Chapel Chorlton and Maer before returning to Standon finishing at All Saints First School .
The race is limited to 300 runners due to car parking restrictions which is why it is strongly being recommended by the organisers to enter early to avoid disappointment .
Entrants must be at least 16 years of age on the race date , 3rd November 2013 , and runners need to take note that the wearing of headphones during the race is prohibited .
Prizes will be up for grabs for all age groups and to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the race all finishers will receive a bottle of Flying Fox Real Ale brewed by Stone ’ s local Lymestone Brewery along with a well stocked ‘ goody bag ’.
In addition £ 5.00 cash will be given to every tenth competitor up to the first 100 finishers . The tenth male finisher from the end will win a litre
bottle of whisky and the tenth female from the end a litre bottle of gin along with lots of spot prizes which will be up for grabs .
The race forms part of The North Staffordshire Road Runners Association series of races with the race headquarters , All Saints First School in Standon , providing refreshments and male and female toilet and changing facilities but no showers . Parking for the race will be 100 to 150 yards from the school at Standon Mill .
The profits from the race after making a donation to Standon First School will be ploughed back into the club for the benefit of training new runners from the area and promoting the Master Marathoners other races such as the Spring Series in April , the Westbridge 5 in June and the Flying Fox Marathon which is set to be resurrected in May 2014 after a gap of twenty years .
In addition donations are made to local and national charities .
