JOSEPH ALPHONSO Preserve the Apple ! The purpose of my experiment is to find out which liquids can preserve apples. My hypothesis is: If I cut an apple and put it into milk, water, and lemon juice, then it will not become dark because the exposed area has been covered. ! The procedure of my experiment is: First, I will cut an apple into eights. Then, I will put an eighth of an apple into milk, water, salt water, lemon juice, orange juice, sprite, diet coke, and one sitting in a cup with nothing but air in it. ! The materials I need to complete my experiment are: an apple, orange, lemon juice, salt, regular water, milk, water, sprite, diet coke, 8 cups, a knife, and a cutting board. ! The independent variable is the different liquids that I stuck an eighth of an apple into (listed above). The dependent variable is the green and brown spots that were on the apple after they spent sometime in the liquid. The constant is the fact that I used the same kind of apple in my experiment. ! In my experiment the results showed that the lemon juice and orange juice are the only liquids in my experiment that are preservatives. ! I came to the conclusion that my hypothesis was 33% right. I learned that if I cut an apple open and then had to go somewhere (unexpectedly or expectedly) then I could stick it into lemon or orange juice, and come back to it later.
