Metso invests in DRI smelting furnace

Acerinox to acquire Haynes International
Metso is expanding its testing capabilities by investing EUR 8M to build a state-of-the-art DRI ( direct reduced iron ) Smelting Furnace pilot facility . The pilot plant will be constructed in Pori , Finland , where Metso has one of its major R & D Centres serving the minerals and metals industry . The new facility will allow customer-specific pilot-scale testing to demonstrate the applicability and results of industrial-scale DRI smelting with Metso ’ s Outotec ® DRI Smelting Furnace technology . The new high-capacity Outotec ® DRI Smelting Furnace is one of Metso ’ s breakthrough technologies and a major Planet Positive solution to support decarbonizing the iron and steel industry . Metso ’ s Outotec ® DRI Smelting Furnace substitutes traditional blast furnaces in the production of hot metal , making it an optimal solution for primary steel producers aiming for a significant reduction in their CO2 emissions with minimal changes to the rest of the steel plant .
Acerinox will acquire Haynes International . Acerinox will purchase all outstanding shares of Haynes for USD 61 / share , which represents a fully diluted equity value of USD 798M . This transaction has been approved by the boards of directors of Haynes and Acerinox . The acquisition strengthens the company ’ s global position in high-performance alloys and create business opportunities in the aerospace industry and the US market .

Henley Group has expanded its offering within the construction industry by investing GBP 2.1M into the launch of a new division , HZS Stainless Steel , based in Wakefield . The new steelwork division will manufacture stainless steel components such as brackets , restraints , and fixings for GRC ( Glass-fibre Reinforced Concrete ) projects . The new division complements the Group ’ s established GRC cladding ,
KLOECKNER Metals UK has officially opened its new state-ofthe-art stockholding and processing facility at Newbridge Link at Newbridge Industrial Estate in Edinburgh . The company chose the industrial park 10 miles from the city centre as the location of its new facility which is the largest metal stockholding and processing warehouse in Scotland boasting over 100,000 sq ft of internal space and an 11,114 sq ft office pavilion . The facility ’ s stock capacity of 5000 tonnes , which is made up of carbon steel , stainless steel , and aluminium , coupled with Kloeckner Metals UK ’ s extensive processing expertise , enables the delivery of a comprehensive range of sustainable solutions to a diverse array of industries .
