L & T HE secures Middle East contracts
SMART-APP utilises AI
Larsen & Toubro ( L & T ) Heavy Engineering ( HE )’ s Modification , Revamp and Upgrade business segment has won a significant order from a key oil and gas customer in KSA for their important debottlenecking project . This order is an important milestone for MRU business in the Middle East . L & T HE has also secured orders for several critical equipment which include 2 EO Reactors from a leading global chemical company in Thailand , Cr-Mo-V Reactors for an oil project in KSA , Large Stainless-Steel Column for NGL project in Australia and Heat Exchanger from a leading industry player in USA . On the domestic front , L & T HE received orders to manufacture VGO Reactor , Critical Cr-Mo-V Reactor , and proprietary design high pressure Heat Exchangers for a refinery project . The business also secured an order for Carbamate Condenser from RCF Mumbai for their Urea Plant .
WuXi completes MFG7 facility
Working in partnership with Ormskirk-based Additive Manufacturing Solutions Ltd and AMFG , Materials Processing Institute providing MES and workflow automation for manufacturing , the GBP 600,000 SMART- APP project will enable high-level production of AM components , using Laser Powder Bed Fusion , through the introduction of smart predictive models for resource efficiency and waste reduction . SMART-APP aims to predict the quality change of the powder after each process and propose alternative process parameters on used powder to extend its lifespan with a minimal or an inspecification impact on product quality . The research will feature advanced materials characterisation , and mechanical testing , investigating shelf life and the processability envelope of environmentally affected common stainless steel , titanium and superalloy base feedstock . It will also examine methods of reclaiming the powders and the effect on the final product . The resulting outputs will be fed into an advanced database linking powder input properties against AM part performance to provide a predictive tool that will be available to industry .

WuXi Biologics has successfully completed the first manufacturing run at its drug substance facility MFG7 , paving the way for large-scale commercial manufacturing projects at this Ireland site . The manufacturing run reached 16,000-liter scale by combining four 4,000-liter single-use bioreactors . This pioneering paradigm marks not only the first successful manufacturing run for the MFG7 facility , but also the largest manufacturing scale for WuXi Biologics to date . The Cost of Goods ( COGS ) from this run is comparable to that of a 16,000-liter traditional stainless-steel bioreactor , reinforcing the comparable cost seen in over 100 runs at 12,000-liter scale single-use bioreactors compared with a traditional 12,000-liter stainless steel bioreactor .
