Freshers’ Week - 10-14th September- was a great success, with many students enjoying a wide range of extra curricular activities and opportunities such as live music, promotional offers, food tasting, sumo wresting; bouncy castles and information stalls.
On 28th September, SDC:SU attended the NUS Festival which was a great way to learn about what the NUS does and to learn things from other colleges around the country.
'Be Safe' week (w/c 1st October), including ‘Learn to Live’ presentations by Devon & Somerset Fire was supported by staff, students and SDC:SU. 'Be Safe' themed activities were held across campus for tutorial groups to attend.
Students brought in food donations for the Anode Charity, a local food bank which was running short of supplies and requesting local support.
SDC:SU ran a competition on Facebook to give away two tickets to see Rizzle Kicks.
The winner was very excited with his prize and it was great to have such a successful response to the competition. Facebook was also used to promote Dartington’s “Happiness” Festival which provided 20 free tickets for South Devon College students.
This term has been as lively as ever with a substantial new cohort of learners settling in and enjoying their learning in addition to major initiatives on a number of fronts. We look forward to further exciting developments and student activities throughout the year.

to present to their meeting on the proposed University Technical College (UTC) and Devon Studio School.
A UTC consultation event was held on Tuesday 9th October at the University of Exeter campus, supported by several members of the College’s Senior Management Team (SMT) and partner sponsors/stakeholders. A similar event was held at Coombeshead College on Thursday 18th October 2012.
The College’s staff and students supported the Bay’s Hi Tech Forum held at the Riviera Centre as a Silver Sponsor. The conference was attended by key speakers
Professor Simon Payne, Dean of Academic Partnerships at Plymouth University, toured the campus and met with senior managers on Wednesday 24th October 2012.
The HE Graduation Awards and Apprenticeship Awards held at Dartington Hall on 13th September 2012 were highly successful, with around 800 participants celebrating student achievement in spectacular surroundings. Feedback from many attendees has been overwhelmingly positive.
