World Day of Prayer
2 pm on Friday 3 March 2017 in Toryglen Parish Church, Glenmore
Ave, Toryglen G42 0EH
The 2017 World Day of Prayer “Am I being unfair to you” is written by the
Christian women of The Philippines.
St Oswald’s and other churches in the local community will gather
and be part of this global ecumenical movement of informed
prayer and prayerful action on the first Friday in March. This
movement was founded in 1887 by women in the United States of America
and now over 170 countries and regions Christian women of different
traditions and backgrounds gather and enables their concerns and needs to
be heard and shared.
The Women’s World Day of Prayer came to Scotland in 1928 when Mrs
Grace Forgan, a member of the United Free Church, brought news of it back
after she attended an international missionary conference in Jerusalem. The
first service was held in Scotland in 1930.
Offerings collected at all service and any donations go to the work of the
World Day of Prayer and after expenses monies are dispersed to such
charities as The Scottish Bible Society, Feed the Minds and a Christian
Society project in the writing country. In recent years, it has been sent to
help those affected by HIV or AIDS, or human trafficking.
The theme for 2018 is “All God Created is Very Good”.
