Remembering
Janet and Frank Winkler
This photo was taken by me on our last evening spent with them in Middlebury . We had just had fun together at a church in a nearby town at their annual fundraiser - a Chicken Pie Dinner .
We felt extreme sadness to hear from Frank that Janet had died on Wednesday 13 July and I now can fill you in on some of the details of their circumstances . To those who are newcomers amongst us , St Margaret ’ s rejoiced in having the company of Janet and Frank Winkler when Frank was on Sabbatical at ANU on two occasions .
We came to enjoy their friendship and share in their energy , fun , wonderful smiles and especially for Janet her discussions with Harvey on a Sunday . Since their final stay amongst us John Goss and Don and I have spent time with them in their beautiful college town in Vermont .
A very troubled time for them started in March of last year when a rare tornado ripped through Middlebury , just west of their house . Since all power and communication was immediately knocked out , they had not realised until the next day how severe the damage was to their home .
