Bayport begins its 2nd century of service
The city of Bayport is moving ahead into a new century , after having marked its 100th birthday last year . One of the projects planned is a new pavilion at Village Green Park , in conjunction with the American Legion , which also marked its 100th year .
Another reason to celebrate in 2023 is the re-opening of the Bayport Library in April , after an extensive remodeling project .
From an ice fishing tournament in the winter , to the June Citywide garage sale and ice cream social , residents have much to look forward to this year .
Bayport dates to 1922 . Formerly known as South Stillwater , Bayport is the result of a mid- 1800s merger of three towns : Middletown , Bangor and Baytown . It was renamed Bayport in 1922 . It officially became a city in 1974 . The most recent population figures show the current population is 3,826 , living in

A marina , boat rental and public boat access make Bayport a favorite for boaters attracted to the beauty of the St . Croix River .
Bayport ’ s public parks offer recreation facilities . These include Lakeside Park , Barker ’ s Alps Park , Perro Park and Village Green Park . At the south end of the city , the St . Croix Savanna Natural Area attracts hikers , nature lovers , bird watchers and photographers with its hill prairie and oak savanna . About 115 species of birds have been spotted in the area .
Bayport has a variety of independent restaurants featuring local ingredients and classic comfort food . The Bayport American Legion Post is active serving veterans and the community , with dining , special events and hall rental .
Bayport is home to Andersen Corporation , an internationally known window manufacturer . Andersen began in Hudson , Wisconsin , in 1897 as the Andersen Lumber Company . It moved to what was then South Stillwater in 1913 and has become one of the most successful companies in the St . Croix Valley .
The Bayport City Council has five members and typically meets at 6 p . m . the first Monday of the month .
