Oak Park Heights a city of beauty

Residents and visitors seek out the scenic beauty , family-friendly neighborhoods , and regional shopping of Oak Park Heights . With nearly 5,000 residents , the city lies along Highway 36 beside the St . Croix River .
A modern engineering marvel , the new St . Croix Crossing bridge links Oak Park Heights to its neighbors in western Wisconsin . The towering Xcel Energy Allen S . King Power Plant can be seen for miles .
Although the city was incorporated in 1959 , its history can be traced to 1857 . That ’ s when John Parker , William Dorr , Gold and Mary Curtis , Olive Anderson , and William M . McCluer founded Oak Park , a 10-block area between Stillwater and South Stillwater ( now Bayport ). Many early settlers saw Oak Park as a prime area for industrial development because of its proximity to the river .
Today the city has a wide array of restaurants and shopping , ranging from groceries to home improvements and from discount retail to auto dealers .
Oak Park Heights is home to seven parks and an extensive trail system for walking , biking , and running . Park shelter reservations are free , and the parks have been the sites of gatherings , such as weddings , family reunions , and birthday parties . Visitors come from all over the region to walk or bike the trail system or play disc golf at the Brekke Park Disc Golf Course .
Oak Park Heights is also home to Boutwells Landing , a senior living community built on a 100-acre site that offers a variety of senior living options .
The Oak Park Heights City Council typically meets at 6 p . m . on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month . The city also has active planning and parks commissions .
