EXAMINATION TIPS: A lecturer’ s perspective

A student will sit approximately 30 formal examinations during his or her time at University. Therefore, it is no surprise that students seek guidance in the form of examination hints or tips for answering questions. I gather that this was the impetus behind the request for me to prepare some“ tips” on preparing for examinations. The caveat, before I begin, is that each lecturer requires different things and the key is to write in the language of your course and answer what your lecturer asks of you.

which topics, out of those taught for the semester, a student will prepare for the examination. Whether the student knows it or not, lecturers know that a student’ s preparation includes spotting for exams. The problem is made even worse when a student“ spots” within a“ spot” or chooses parts of selected topics which they will study. This should not be done.
