Pinterest:fab or fail
TWO FAB SUMMER PINTEREST PROJECTS
By Ellie Hillenbrand
Summer is just around the corner, and I have two perfect DIY's! Summer is
hands-down my favorite season. I love swimming, eating ice cream and watermelon
(not together…but that's an idea!) and just lying in the sun reading a book, with a
frozen drink in hand and the cutest flip flops on. This edition of Pinterest fab or fail is
more fab then fail.
The first DIY is homemade Unicorn Fr appuccinos. This unicorn frap was out
temporarily at Starbucks (see top left). It's an interesting fruity and sour combination
that is essentially a milkshake. First, I combined a 10 ounce can of sweetened
condensed milk with a packet of unsweetened blue raspberry lemonade Kool-Aid.
Make sure to leave some of the blue Kool-Aid to add at the end. If it's not blue
enough when you stir it up, add some blue food dye put it in a squeezy bottle or a
piping bag and set aside. In a blender, combine 1 cup of vanilla ice cream, 1 cup of
ice, 1/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips, and a package of cherry or
strawberry Kool-Aid, reserving some in the bag. Blend up and if you need more pink,
add some food dye. Take your cup and make a zigzag pattern on the inside with the
blue mixture. Pour in the Frappuccino, and add a generous tower of whipped cream
and sprinkle the leftover pink and blue Kool-Aid! Voilà! This one technically counts
as my "fail", but it won't it wasn't because of the recipe- my blender broke halfway
through! My DIY version is the middle picture or the left.
For a second DIY, that's very fun and incredibly easy, buy a pair of flip-flops and
a big container of foam letter stickers. Take the letter stickers and put them on the
bottom of the flip-flops, and spell a word out, but upside down. You could put
anything, your name, a fun phrase, or shapes! These flip-flops are perfect for
bringing to the beach because when you walk on the sand, your footprints show the
word that you put on the bottom of your flip-flops!
I am definitely going to use these DIY's for my summer adventures. This
summer, my family is going to Marco Island, Florida. As excited as I am for summer,
it is a bittersweet feeling since this is my last year at St. Austin. I am really going to
miss this school and the amazing teachers I’ve had!
