Bogotá
Doesn’t
have sea
35 years ago in Bogotá, a project to improve the recreational space of the city began, it is called ciclovia. The
ciclovia was an initiative of a university students’ group
interested on sports, mainly on cycling, a very important
sport on that time. The first ciclovia was made on December 15th of 1974, and it passed through the 7th, 13th
and 72nd avenues. At first, the ciclovia was open every
Sunday and holiday from 9 to 12 o’clock. This schedule
changed some years after to how we know it now. The
ciclovia was the first step for the development of recreational activities in Bogotá; it opened the doors to new
possibilities and let us have a new way to stroll through
the city. One of the benefits of the ciclovia was the origination of smaller, alternative and permanent routes
called ciclorutas. With time, these routes became increasingly popular and began to spread throughout the city.
