BOEHEIM EARNS

900TH WIN

By: Ryan Welte

Syracuse Mens Basketball Head Coach, Jim Boeheim did something that only two people on earth have ever done, win 900 games as a Head Coach. Those two guys are Bob Knight, and Mike Krzyzewski. Boeheim adds this milestone to his all ready impressive career (4 Olympic Gold Medals as a Men's Basketball Coach, Inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Basketball Hall of Fame.

"I'm happy. I've stayed around long enough," Boeheim said at center

court after receiving a jersey with #900 on it (picture below).

While I am not putting down this accomplishment, I want to explain why we cannot name him as an all time great coach.

While Boeheim has won 900 games as a Head Coach, he hasn't done a lot of the other important things needed to be recognized as a "Great" Coach.

While Boeheim has won 900 games as a Head Coach, he hasn't done a lot of the other important things needed to be recognized as a "Great" Coach. Boeheim has Coached the Orange for his entire coaching career, Head Coach since 1976. In those 36 years, Boeheim has taken his team to only three Final Four appearances. In those three appearances, they

have only won one National Title.

"Great" Coaches win a lot more than that. The other two men in the 900 wins club have won enough to be considered "Great." Mike Krzyzewski has

won eight Olympic Basketball Gold Medals, 4 NCAA Championships, and has been inducted to both Hall of Fames that I mentioned the Boeheim has made. Bob Knight has won 3 NCAA Championships and made five Final Four appearances.

Boeheim still deserves praise because of this great milestone, I just don't want to hear things go too far about the legacy Jim Boeheim. Win multiple NCAA Titles, then you can be in the conversation for "Great" coaches.
