Why McElroy to Start is a Good Thing for Tim Tebow
Four: the number of interceptions that Mark Sanchez threw in what will be his last start as a New York Jet. To fill in: no, not last year's sensation Tim Tebow, but 2nd year Greg McElroy. McElroy threw a game winning touchdown against the Cardinals in Week 13 after Sanchez was benched, but outside of that, has no experience at all. Tebow, on the other hand, won a playoff game just 11 months ago.
While I don't agree with Rex Ryan's decision, as I haven't many, I do think that Tebow should be pleased that he is not going to start for New York. Tebow was insulted by the Jets coaching staff as they failed to use him in a remotely correct way. Is there another team in the league that would think 'punt pretector' when they first saw Tim Tebow?
The truth is, Tebow is better off escaping New York without have started at this point. I don't think his value has dropped that much from last year to this year and there is still a team that would be willing to commit a year to him as a starting QB. Tebow has never had that and I think that would help him tremendously in his confidence on the field. If Tebow started these last two games and did poorly, those few teams that might be interested in him right now might not want to commit to a year.
Tebow had an opportunity last year to play for the Jacksonville
Jaguars, and I still cannot figure out what made him choose the
Jets. Tebow played college in Florida, the Jags had pretty well
already given up on their awful rookie Quarterback Blaine
Gabbert, and I believed that Tebow was a better fit for
Jacksonville's coaching staff than Rex Ryan and the Jet's misfits.
Now though, Tebow has said he wants out of New York this
offseason, and I still think Jacksonville is a main option for
Tebow. I could also see him moving to the Cardinals or maybe
even the Chiefs to run that unique offense with Jamaal Charles.
For any team that is interested in trying a Tim Tebow experiment, and really wants to try, I don't think Tebow will ever win another playoff game. I think that a Tebow led team can have some kind of success, and some memorable moments, but will never achieve the ultimate goal, the Super Bowl.
The one thing I think everyone can agree on is how terribly the Jets tried to use Tebow. Just a shame and embarrassment.
