“
My name is Vanessa Telesford , I am 19 years old and a first year Culinary Arts student at the T . A Maryshow Community College in Grenada . I previously attended the St . Joseph Convent Grenville Secondary where I graduated with six CXC subjects . The purpose of this essay is to outline my career aspirations , nature and extent of community involvement , suitability and fit for the GemStar Sponsorship and how the Playmas Montreal GemStar Scholarship award will assist in the pursuit of higher education .
Ever since I could remember , I ’ ve always wanted to become a chef . There was nothing that could steer me away from following my dream . In the future I aim to fulfill my goals of becoming a professional chef by working hard and possibly graduate with honors at T . A Maryshow community college . I am willing to dedicate my energy and time to persevere through whatever obstacles to achieve my goal of becoming a chef .
Some of the ways in which I have contributed my time to the community is by being involved in community activities . For instance , I will take part in church events where I will go around and help clean the environment . Even in high school , my class will go to the river and clean up the garbage . Recently , I volunteered to help with community service at the independence show in Grenville which was a wonderful experience for me . One of my favorite things is bonding with elderly folks and assisting them as much

as possible . Helping the elderly is something I have grown to love and enjoy . Despite the few community involvement that I have , I am also hoping to experience more .
I believe I am fit for the sponsorship because I am willing to do what is expected of me to ensure that every challenge that comes my way . This sponsorship will assist me a lot by alleviating a lot of set backs due to my current situation . For instance , every Saturday I work at my grand aunt and uncle ’ s restaurant ( Good Food Restaurant ) to help myself with bus and things I will need for school . However , the stipend is not enough to cover my weekly expenses . They will also give me extra little things to do just to assist and with
