Figure 1- Sensory profile of EcoSmooth Universal Fluid 2000
modern leave-on concepts, where sensory, formulation flexibility and product aesthetics must work together across multiple categories.
EcoSmooth Universal Fluid 2000 can be incorporated with a broad range of cosmetic ingredients, including low-viscosity silicone oils, hydrocarbons, natural oils, esters, selected sunscreen actives and even insect repellents such as DEET( Table 1). Under the reported test conditions, it also shows stronger compatibility with coconut oil than Dimethicone 5 cSt.
In addition, EcoSmooth Universal Fluid 2000 offers a sensory profile characterised by smoothness, slipperiness, and low tack, while also supporting shine enhancement, surface smoothness and friction reduction on hair. It lubricates skin and hair by adsorbing onto surfaces, forming a protective layer, and using its viscosity to help maintain separation between moving surfaces. The oxygen atoms within its polar ether groups can interact with polar sites on skin and hair, supporting adhesion and stability of this lubricating layer.
This mechanism contributes to the desired slippery, smooth sensory profile and is supported by strong sensory performance across a broad range of personal care formats, including skin creams, night oils, powder-to-lotion systems, and roll-on antiperspirants. With a high flash point(> 120 ° C) and low volatility, it contributes to a perceived moisturised skin feel.
EcoSmooth Universal Fluid 2000’ s sensory profile was evaluated( Figure 1) on skin. It demonstrates a similar profile to C 15-19 alkane, leading to a smooth, slippery and non-tacky feel, supporting its use in formulations with refined sensorial attributes. In hair care applications, its lubricity also supports conditioning benefits by reducing the coefficient of friction on hair fibres. The fluid can enhance gloss and shine, in part to its high( ≥ 1.44) refractive index.
The ingredient functions as an efficient dispersing and wetting medium for both pigments and inorganic UV filters. It helps promote uniform pigment dispersion, produces low-viscosity slurries with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, and demonstrates good wettability of iron oxide pigments( Figure 2). As a result, it acts as a true formulation supporter as well as a carrier fluid.
Skin care
The watery oil face serum prototype illustrates how EcoSmooth Universal Fluid 2000 can open new possibilities in skin care design. Used at 5 wt %, the fluid is incorporated into a serum system containing humectants, polysorbate 20, polymeric rheology
