Militaria 648 647X 650 651X 653 654 649 Session I: Wednesday, January 15, 2014 Estimate 654 – WORLD WAR II – AMERICAN 653 Estimate /D 1906 GEORGE S. PATTON HANDWRITTEN, SIGNED LETTER TO MAMA ........................... PH $2500-3500 /D 1898 GEORGE S PATTON JR REPORT CARD, SIGNED COVER TO MOTHER ........................ PH $1200-1700 Two items: First is Dec 23, 1898, report card (5¼”x8¼”) from Pasadena Classical School for Boys, where 13-year-old Patton received high marks for everything except grammar (65 on exam). He had been home-schooled by his father until age 12. Patton later made light of his academic ordeal by joking, ‘I had trouble with my a’s and b’s - and what the hell is that other letter?’ Lot also includes April 21, 1913, cover addressed by Patton to his mother, essentially a very bold signature. Envelope signed ‘Geo. S Patton’ in the name of the addressee (6"x4"). Slit open at top. Fine and scarce. Saint Louis, Missouri Autographs 05.pmd Extremely personal handwritten 4-page letter from ‘devoted son’ to ‘Mama,’ in which he writes of the mundane, being hit with a snowball and being not very well liked by ‘the Ayers,’ the people who would become his in-laws 4 years later. Letter (5¼”x6½”) is written on both sides in bold black ink. Although undated, the letter was written Dec 23-24, 1906, being dated by the color photocopy of the transmittal cover that accompanies lot. Signed ‘Geo. S. Patton Jr, Stamps,’ across top of first page. Very fine. (University Archives LOA) Autographs & Documents 117 Page 117 11/27/2013, 3:19 PM
