Day (Victory over Japan) September 2, 1945, autographed by crew members of both planes to drop atomic bombs on Japan. Includes both pilots: Charles Sweeney, inscribed ‘Pilot Nagasaki’, and Paul Tibbets, pilot of the Enola Gay. Other crew members who have signed: Morris Jeppson (weapon test officer), Dutch Van Kirk (navagator), Richard Nelson (radio) of the Enola Gay, and Frederick Ashworth and Fred Olivi (co-pilot) of the Bockscar. Other various inscriptions alongside signatures, usually indicating role on historic flights. All in different ink. Very fine. Similar item sold recently for $450. Group of 8 War and Combat Insignia albums, most 7½”x10", containing narratives and poster stamps of different US units. They all look to be complete with few if any missing stamps. Eisenhower’. Eisenhower states ‘In a way your letter was something like a breath of fresh air in a very stuffy room.’ Letter 6"x8", gum stain across top from mounting not affecting any printing. Roughly opened envelope with flap missing, with typed ‘General Dwight D. Eisenhower/APO 757, U.S. Army’ return address on front. Good content. Eisenhower’ in left portion between typed ‘Censored by:’ and ‘General of the Army, U.S. Army,’ back flap imprinted ‘Headquarters / U.S. Forces, European Theater / Office of the Commanding General.’ Cover slit open neatly at top. No postal markings. Full signature by Eisenhower as general in a likely attempt at humor. Very fine. PH $150-250 An approximately 17"x27" irregular section of metal wreckage salvaged in Europe from a WWII B-24 Liberator bomber bearing a signed 1990 painting by P.G. Johnson of original risque nose art from the B-24 ‘Strawberry Bitch.’ Small pieces of velcro on the back at the 3 contact points for display. Very attractive. 1942 WWII AIRCRAFT & SHIP IDENTIFICATION TRAINING MANUAL ............................................. PH $200-300 ‘Recognition of Ships & Aircraft’ Ground School Manual dated Jan 1942 from the Corpus Cristi NAS. Loaded with photos and identifying characteristics of US, Japanese and German aircraft and ships, including several ships that were later sunk at Midway. Very interesting manual full of annotations. Bullet top Lighter (6½x2½”) made from a cartridge. Top comes off to reach lighting mechanism. Appears to never have been used. Unusual.
