ith Medispa procedures all the rage, and spa visits for injectibles increasing,
have we lost the essential nature of the spa experience – to create wellness, rejuvenation and soothed spirits? I can remember a time when a visit to a spa was comprised of hot tub, steam room, swim and a massage. I felt transported and deliciously pampered.
Today, do our spas live up to the sensuality test? Are our five senses provided with a menu of spa delight? Are we bathed in sensual smells, soothing colours and art on the walls, and lulled by quality music as we enter each room of the spa? The spa treatment should begin as we enter the spa. We experience the services and products and leave – hopefully blissful each time.
Have you ever experienced music as a tonic for healing? Whether it be raw and luscious sounds of nature – birds, a trickling brook, a gentle rainfall or crickets at night – nature’s music is a healer. Thoughtful instrumental music and other types of music, including chanting, mantras and more, create a womb of sonic bliss and rejuvenation.
As a flutist and spa music specialist with spa-la-la.com – providing music recordings for spa environments and treatment rooms at an early age – I actually “self-spa’d,” naturally, healing my headaches with flute playing. The sound vibrations of the flute combined by deep breathing seemed to do the trick!
Equally important, I believe, are the colours choosen to have on the walls at spas. Colour therapy is a widely recognized healing modality that offers relief and relaxation for the whole mind, body and spirit. Wall colours and paintings also make a significant impact upon us. While some hues elicit a lively and upbeat response, others are calming and enable us to unwind by the sheer combination and flow of hues.
As you are gearing up to your fall/winter season, you may find it worthwhile to give your spa a facelift by considering the wall colours and art on your walls. Imagine your spa as an extension of nature and vibrations – the colour and sound of life itself. The pulsation of life and true health live in the balance of colour, sounds, smells and tastes.
