Mustang Island has over 20 miles of public beach. You can drive on most of this, if you buy a permit at the local grocery store. I bought a boogie board and swim shorts, and headed for the beach. The beach is uncrowded except on holidays, so I went and caught some waves, and yes, I 'wiped out' more than once. After a while, I looked at my watch and realized it was already 5:30; time flies when you're at the beach! After a lovely dinner of Fried Snapper at Pelican's LandIng restaurant, I spent the night at my guest house.
