A group of German construction workers start
a tough job at a remote site in the Bulgarian
countryside. The foreign land awakens the
men's sense of adventure, but they are also
confronted with their own prejudices due to
the language barrier and cultural differences.
The stage is quickly set for a showdown when
men begin to compete for recognition and
favour from the local villagers. The Beauty Queen
of Leenane
‘…a faultlessly observed, broodingly intelligent
piece of realism; a dispatch from a sun-baked
frontier that could hardly feel more mundane,
but which Grisebach somehow suffuses with
the beauty and power of myth."
¬ Justin Chang - Los Angeles Times Directed by Claire Ryan and featuring Diane
Lacey, Jacqui Lacey, John Glasheen and Mark
Fitzell, the play is set in Leenane in the
mountains of Connemara, Co. Galway. It tells
the story of Maureen Folan, a plain and lonely
woman in her early forties, and Mag, her
manipulative, ageing mother.

Holycross/Ballycahill Drama Group bring Martin
McDonagh’s classic play ‘The Beauty Queen of
Leenane’ to the stage for their spring
production.
Mag's interference in Maureen's first romantic
encounter sets in motion a chain of events that
are as tragically funny as they are horrific.
