how Harry discovers the secret of the Philosopher ’ s Stone in his first year at Hogwarts school and diminishes the chance of Voldemort , the Dark Lord , rising again . In his first year in Gryffindor house at Hogwarts , Harry finds out the truth about his parents and learns about Quidditch , Potions , Trolls and the Dark Forest . In the process , he meets Hermione , a clever , assiduous , slightly arrogant girl and Ron , an amiable and friendly red-haired boy . The three of them intercept Voldemort to get the Philosopher ’ s Stone , which is detrimental to Voldemort ’ s intention to rise again . All the characters in the Harry Potter series have unique and distinctive personalities and their features and weaknesses are reflected vividly in the following films . As the first work in this series , Harry Potter and the Philosopher ’ s Stone is the brightest in colour and has the most active tone , presenting a rich image of the magical world of Hogwarts ; the dark side is initially dormant but this progresses through the series .
