An SD should be able to shift between working with customers themselves and overseeing the floor. Sometimes you’ll be doing and some times you’ll be directing. A great SD knows how to adapt from a leader to doer and back to leader again without missing a beat. AWARENESS. Have you ever heard an orchestra with just two instruments? An SD is like a conductor: focusing on several things at once. An SD knows who is in the store, and what they’re doing, at all times. Even if they’re with a customer, they keep an eye and an ear out for anything out of tune… 4
