Griffith, known in soca music
circles as Superman HD (he won
the Power Soca Monarch in 2012,
so give the brother his props),
feels that VYBE Radio has in many
ways been a pioneer for modern
radio because many of the things
the station has started doing that
others have since adopted.
“I think this is good and healthy
for the industry as it keeps people
on their toes and makes them
more innovative,” he stated. “This
is how you have to be if you want
to be successful in any business
environment.”
Griffith said a great deal of wisdom
and prayer went into making
VYBE Radio a reality. His previous
experience as an on-air personality
at Radio Caribbean International
(RCI) for many years also prepped
him for the new challenge. After
leaving RCI, he applied for his own
radio license, funding the entire
process from his own pockets after
being turned down by banks.
Help soon came from many
people who saw what Griffith and
Williams were attempting to do.
People were actually offering their
services without even seeking
compensation. Today, VYBE Radio --
which has the tagline, “Now you’re
feeling the VYBE!”-- airs 24 hours a
day, seven days a week on 92.9 FM
in the north and 100.9 FM in the
south.
the station has been making waves
way past everyone’s expectations.
However, he admitted that when
VYBE Radio opened its doors, the
original plan had to be tailored.
But without some serious sacrifices,
VYBE Radio would not be the
vybing radio station that it is today.
Which is why Griffith cautions
entrepreneurs to always put in the
effort in order to reap the rewards.
“If you’re not ready to work hard,
don’t go into business,” he said.
“Nothing good comes if you’re not
ready to work hard for it. There is
no big secret to success. You just
need to be prepared to work hard
and keep at it. Nothing good in life
comes easy. The last thing I’ll ever
do is give up because I do not know
how to lose.”
Elijah Williams, the station’s
Director and Sales Manager, said

“Instead of hiring recognized
people to make an immediate
impact, we decided to hire people
whom we knew were talented but
unrecognized, thereby using them
to create something new,” he said.
Sticking to the theme of wanting to
be different, the station recruited
young talents such as Kiedel Sonny,
two-time Green Synergy winner
DJ Yellow, DJ Shelz, DJ ReadyMix
and DJ Ratly, giving them the
opportunity to showcase their
talents. Some of them have since
left the station while new talents
have joined.
VYBE Radio currently airs
entertainment news, local and
regional news and a long playlist
of the best music selected by
some of the island’s hottest DJs.
The station also has a morning
sports programme, The Banter,
