Most Students Prefer Studying From Notes Before Tests by Mirei Yo

12th-grader Aileen Kang studies by looking over her notes from class and reading the content in her textbook . She also likes to study with groups because it helps her ask questions immediately .
“ Reading textbooks or only using other materials with texts does not help me understand ,” Kang said .
Sophie Hong , a 6th-grader , studies by retaking her notes and repeating them out loud several times so that her brain can remember details . She makes sure she understands all the concepts by giving herself small quizzes . Rereading the whole textbook does not help her at all .
Most of the younger kids interviewed preferred to study with notes , while older kids tend to study with graphs , charts , and groups .

Of all the different ways one can study for a test , most students interviewed for this article preferred studying independently from their class notes . Other popular study techniques include studying with flashcards , watching videos , and joining study groups .

6th-grader Luke Yoshimura studies with flashcards and takes breaks every hour so that he can concentrate on his studies . He recommends not to cram everything in a single night .
“ I sleep early so that I can remember the things I practiced that day ,” Yoshimura said .
6th-grader Hannah Xiao looks over notes , and if she does not understand what she wrote , she watches YouTube videos for extra analysis . She also believes that study groups are a bad idea because most students end up chatting about something offtopic .
