Squid Game : Is it Appropriate for Kids ?

Squid Game , a violent Netflix tv series that many kids have watched at home this fall , was released on September 17 , 2021 . The series is about a man lacking money who plays children ’ s games to win a big cash prize of 45,600,000,000 won ( about 38 million U . S . Dollars ). However , it ’ s not just participating in some easy game . There are serious consequences in losing . Such as death which can negatively affect many kids .
6th-grader Lea Chung said , “ My parents don ’ t allow me to watch it because it ’ s violent .” Lea is 12 years old and her parents don ’ t allow her to watch it because there ’ s violence such as gore .
The series includes graphic depictions of killing and gore . It also teaches kids that whatever they do wrong they have to be punished harshly for , even if it ’ s just a loss in a game . “ Some reports say children have been using physical violence in the playground to punish losers as a substitute for the player losing their life ” ( theguardian . com ). This shows that the show affects many little kids to be violent in losing in games .
6th-grader Ethan Cho said , “ Kids should not see like shooting guns and killing people and 18 +…” He thinks that Squid Game is not made for kids .
6th-grader Hyejin Kwon stated , “ I think only children who are older than 10 should watch it ,” 10-15 is not an old enough age to watch the movie but it also shows that she does not think children from 1-9 ( very young age ) to be watching Squid Game .
