SUBARU VEHICLES ARE TOP SAFETY PICKS AGAIN

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) has announced its Top Safety Picks for 2020 and Subaru vehicles performed admirably . Eight different 2021 models received high marks from the IIHS with four of them earning the highest possible rating , a Top Safety Pick + ( TSP +).

The 2021 Subaru Legacy was one of those to land a TSP + rating , the 15th consecutive year ( 2006-20 ) that this class-leading sedan has achieved a Top Safety Pick rating or better . This is the longest-running streak in the segment , a remarkable record of achievement .
Another longstanding star , the Subaru Forester , also secured a TSP + rating for 2020 , the 14th consecutive year ( 2007-20 ) this popular compact SUV has scored a Top Safety Pick or better . As with the Legacy , this uninterrupted record of achievement makes the Forester the clear class leader .
The 2021 Subaru Ascent also scored the best possible rating from the prestigious institute , while the final TSP + rating was awarded to the 2021 Subaru Outback . This designation represents just another reason why the latest Outback and the groundbreaking Ascent are engineered for drivers who steer clear of compromise at all costs .
The Subaru vehicles that achieved Top Safety Pick
( TSP ) ratings for 2020 ( when equipped with EyeSight ® and specific headlights ) are : the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek , both the sedan and 5-door version of the 2021 Subaru Impreza , and the 2021 Subaru WRX . For the Crosstrek , it ’ s the ninth consecutive year of earning at least a TSP rating , a record that covers every year this subcompact utility has been on the market .
“ Safety is always at the forefront of everything we do ,” said SCI president , chairman and CEO Yasushi Enami . “ These Top Safety Pick awards from IIHS reinforce Subaru ’ s commitment to safety and we will continue to prioritize the safety of everyone on the road .”
To qualify for a 2020 TSP rating , a vehicle must earn “ good ” ratings in the driver-side small overlap front , passenger-side small overlap front , moderate overlap front , side , roof strength and head restraint tests . The vehicle must also earn an “ advanced ” or “ superior ” rating for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention and it must offer “ acceptable ” or “ good ” headlights as available options .
All the same criteria apply for a 2020 TSP + rating with one notable difference : The “ acceptable ” or “ good ” headlights must be standard equipment .
