Science Olympiads Mosaic Leaders: Middle School Math & Science Teachers Grades: 6 th , 7 th & 8 th Dates: Wednesdays Time: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. Fees: No Charge Teachers: Lisa Paulsen, Lower School Teacher (H3) Grades: 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , & 5 th Dates: Wednesdays, September 12 – October 17 (6 weeks) Time: 3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Fees: $168 + $25 materials fee = $193 Minimum Enrollment: 8; Maximum Enrollment: 20 Come and spend Wednesday afternoons creating beautiful mosaics with Mrs. Paulsen! You will learn the nipping, gluing, grouting, and polishing techniques that make this art form so unique. Safety is a priority; therefore, we make sure to use goggles, aprons, and rubber gloves. Students have created many fun projects in the past such as coasters, vases, trivets, decorative wall plaques, candle holders, and flower pots. No experience necessary! The Science Olympiads is a competitive team activity for students in grades 6 th – 8 th to learn skills covering 23 science and engineering- related topics, such as Disease Detectives, Fossils, and some Engineer Build events. Team tryouts will be held in September and team selection will be decided by early October. All students interested in trying out will be expected to: 1. Attend two days of event demonstrations held after school (students with conflicts can make arrangements with the Science Olympiad coordinator to acquire necessary prep materials). Dates will be announced in August. Intro to Soccer 2. Study a prep packet which will be handed out at the event demonstrations. Teacher: Isaias Cairampoma, Lower School Spanish Teacher Grades: 3 rd & 4 th Dates: Wednesdays, September 12 – October 17 (6 weeks) Time: 4-5 p.m. Fees: $168 Minimum Enrollment: 10; Maximum Enrollment: 20 Learn soccer techniques and have fun. Students will develop their soccer skills with training and activities. We will warm up to improve our abilities and play a soccer game each time we meet. 3. Participate in individual and group testing. A letter with a signup sheet will be sent home with Middle School students in the opening days of school and will need to be returned to your Middle School Science Teacher, prior to the event demonstrations. Wednesday afternoons after school are tentatively scheduled as the meeting day. Some morning before-school practices will also be scheduled to accommodate students’ schedules. There will be a couple of Saturdays in the fall that students will need to be present. Parents of team members will be expected to actively participate as coaches and assistants. Page 8 8/1/2018
