Marketing the Movie Going Experience By Lacey Lurz $1,000 ShowTime Scholarship winning essay I chose to write about marketing the movie going experience because it is fitting to my major and my future career choice. I also think this is an important key to the future of the industry, considering the competition now present with streaming services. One thing that brings people to the theatre to see a movie is anticipation. When someone really wants to see a movie, they don’t want to wait until it’s available in stores or to stream at home. Marketing the movie itself and building the excitement up makes customers want to see the film right away, creating 62 • ShowTime Preview Guide – Fall 2016 a sense of urgency to bring them in. Sending emails to newsletters subscribers with show times puts the idea of a night out in their mind and allows them time to plan ahead and make it happen. Using the “movie theatre experience” is another thing that pulls customers back to our theatre time and time again. Word choice plays a part in this as well. Advertising luxury seats and grand screens draws people in, and providing leather recliners and high quality picture makes them return.
