Yet, my knowledge base and budget didn’t allow for me to
get far. So, I began my adventures in the world of food.
Over time, my culinary career complimented my lifestyle
changes.
Yes, some of us are hostages to the foods we eat. But, just
like me, you have the freedom to venture out and try new
healthy foods. The summer months are especially a great
time to explore and try new foods. The warm weather
compels us to eat lighter as we seek relief from the heat.
It’s the best time to discover new fruits and vegetables.
Farmers markets are a great place to unearth nutrient rich
produce. They are low cost to help you stay within your
budget. Each seller is capable of handling any questions
about their benefits and cooking techniques.
Here are a few tips and some fun summer salad recipes:
- When trying a new recipe, see if there are suitable
ingredients to use as a substitute to keep cost low.
- Have a culinary discovery party with each guest bringing
a new recipe they want to share.
- Buy produce that is in season when prices are lower
because of the plethora of product. Google is a quick
resource for finding what’s in season.
- Go ethnic shopping. Buy spices and vegetables from the
Korean, Arabic or Indian communities. I buy my curry
from a local Indian grocery store. It is cheaper, available
in bulk and more authentic than the product in chain
grocery stores.
- Eat based on the color wheel. God created foods that are
vivid in color and eaten close to nature with minimal
processing. Think about when you’re in a grocery store in
the produce section. You see bright greens, reds, blues
and yellows. All promote good health.
