Tier 2, Facilities: VP Carl McLaney and Elaine Nesbit Discuss Building the Structures to House the Proposed 4-year Medical Education Program

Carl McLaney, CDU Vice President of Administration and Infrastructure, and Elaine Nesbit, University Architect, discussed the process of planning and executing the all-important facilities infrastructure for the proposed 4-year MD program.
The University Board of Trustees has made a significant financial commitment to the proposed new 4-Year MD Program. Does that action signal support at the highest levels of CDU leadership?
Carl McLaney: The University Board of Trustees has made a significant financial commitment to the proposed 4-year MD program. Does that action signal support at the highest levels of CDU leadership? Absolutely. CDU is moving forward with the renovation of the COBB building to house the first few years of the 4-year medical education program. The President and the Board has committed to and approved moving forward to build the Health Professions Education Building, which will be an approximately $ 75 million project that ultimately will house the 4-year medical education program. These actions signal Board approval and support, in conjunction with support of the proposed 4-year MD program.
How does the proposed new 4-Year MD Program fit within the University’ s long term Vision Plan?
Carl McLaney: Since its inception, I believe that CDU envisioned a Medical School on its campus. The Vision Plan was developed with the proposed 4-year MD program in mind, including the location for the Health Professions Education Building. The Vision Plan, which represents the long- term campus development plan, envisions creating additional support and a robust student life environment for all students.
The Vision Plan anticipates a holistic campus environment of higher learning for all CDU students and includes unique elements that are focused on supporting the success of the 4-year medical education program students. The CDU Vision Plan will enhance the educational experience of all CDU students, including the 4-year medical education program students.
