“ communities in SPA 6. How will the University implement a concerted effort to ensure local hiring and utilizing a variety of diverse service vendors?
Carl McLaney: The local hire program has been a part of the campus projects for several years – including the recently developed Grand Entrance, Student Center, and the CDU / APLA Wellness Center projects. This effort to hire local will continue to be a part of projects as we move forward. Diversity of service vendors is also important to CDU – from the consultants engaged on projects to the contractors and workers that build projects.
We track by ZIP codes, to measure local hires and our goal is at least 30 % local hire for construction projects. We also seek to drive diversity through the selection of contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and vendors. In addition, we seek out firms that are owned and / or led by people of color and / or women.
We also seek to work with potential consulting firms and / or contractors by asking if they will assign qualified persons of color and / or women as to lead a for proposed projects, so they will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience.
Carl McLaney: The conversations we are having with Professor Hood revolve around creative design within the uniqueness of the campus setting. The intent is for individuals who are on campus to recognize the branded uniqueness of CDU. Professor Hood has also helped shape the Vision Plan and continues to assist with its evolution.
