1938
Using every major form of media, AJC launches an extensive, decade-long campaign to promote American democratic values, including the place of Jews in the U. S. The campaign— which included radio, print, and comic books, among other media— was a revolutionary attempt to reimagine America as a place hospitable to Jews, and where Protestants, Catholics, and Jews would be seen as equals in American society.
1945
AJC secures the inclusion of a human rights provision in the UN Charter. To prevent the horrors of the Second World War from ever recurring, AJC unites American civil society leaders in support of the idea that multilateral cooperation to protect human rights worldwide was essential.
1954
In Brown v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court’ s landmark decision outlawing segregation in public schools, the Court cites AJC-sponsored research conducted by psychologist Kenneth Clark. This is but one example of AJC’ s long history of advocating for civil rights in America, championing the credo that“ Jews cannot ensure equality for themselves unless it is assured for all.”
