1965
Years of AJC diplomacy, relationship-building, and research help shape Nostra Aetate, the Vatican II document heralding a new era in Catholic-Jewish relations. Through direct dialogue with the Catholic Church, AJC played a key role in the development of this groundbreaking statement that removed the charge of deicide against the Jewish people.
1975
In response to the infamous“ Zionism Is Racism” resolution at the United Nations— a joint Soviet-Arab strategy to introduce a new dimension of antisemitism in the world by associating the cause of Israel and Zionism with racism— AJC launches and sustains a sixteenyear media and advocacy campaign, which helps lead to the resolution’ s repeal in 1991.
AJC has been at the forefront of efforts to repeal … the obscene 1975‘ Zionism Is Racism’ UN resolution …. There has been an inability to understand just how dangerous this resolution was to Israel. But AJC did understand. And persisted.
