In the wake of the Kishinev pogroms in Czarist Russia, a group of prominent American Jewish leaders establish American Jewish Committee, the first global Jewish advocacy organization.
1913
AJC advocates for legislation in New York to end anti-Black discrimination in public accommodations, resorts, and amusement parks, resulting in the passage of a law that served as a model for other states.
1920
AJC founder Louis Marshall engineers a dramatic public apology from Henry Ford, the most successful businessman and virulent antisemite in the U. S. at the time. Ford issues a public repudiation of the antisemitic ideas he had supported for years in various publications including his newspaper, The Dearborn Independent.
