Chapter Two
“Nurse…” “We’re going to give you something for the pain…
you can go back to sleep.”
“Hamm” she said as she felt a tiny prick on her arm, where she
was given a shot. Soon the medication took effect bringing with
it much needed relief from an agonizing pain. As sleepiness
claimed her, she put her panic aside over not knowing her
name… she would think about it later when it didn’t hurt so
much. Right now, she would sleep.
It had been four days since they brought her in to the hospital.
In the four days, she slipped in and out of consciousness. Most
of the time she was doped up on pain killers, it was hard for her
to stay awake. It was on the third day that she finally got up and
was coherent enough to ask for water.
At the time, Travis was visiting as he did every day. He would
sit with her for a little while. When the Doctor asked her name
she became distraught when she could not immediately recall it.
They assured her that it was alright. “These things happen” they
told him… “just give her some time.”
On the fourth day she awoke, a little better than the day before
and a lot more coherent. The Doctors examined her and said she
was healing “nicely”. She did not know what to make of that as
there was nothing at all nice in the way she was feeling. The
upside was - they took most of the tubes out, so she was now
breathing on her own. She still had an iv line attached to her
hand though, sustaining her with the intravenous fluid she
